Heya!
I’m back again! I hope you are all well and have had a super fab week! Mine has been extremely busy and I have lots of post about but for now I’m just going to let you know about one of the things I have been up too and next week I’ll fill you all in on the rest! So as lots of you are probably aware one of the subjects I study at college is fashion retail. In fashion we were lucky enough to have a guest speaker in to talk to us about life in the fashion industry, marketing, digital imagining and blogging.
We were visited by Sara who runs a very well known blog sarakblog and also has lots of industry knowledge but not only this she also went to Luton sixth form college so it was great to hear first hand from someone who has succeeded in the industry that went to our college! Sara was a lovely and very welcoming person. Her talk with us was both very inspiring and helpful! I wanted to share with you all some tips that she gave us for anyone else who like me is looking to work in the fashion industry. However instead of boring you I felt a list of my notes would be best so you can all clearly see some helpful tips without having to scam through my waffle!

Here are some of the things which I took away from
Sara's visit.
- Eat, sleep and breathe fashion (what it is you want to do)
- Communication is key
- Look at job descriptions (a very useful way to find you what it is you actually want to do)
- Use and look at Google analytics (particularly for blog users/runners)
- Create a website (this will create an easy accessible portfolio for contacts)
- Act professional (be nice to everyone)
- Think about how your Career will be able to apply to you (e.g. with blogging you have the opportunity to express yourself)
- Time manage and priorities your work (break down your schedule into what you will be doing in the day this is very efficient)
- Marketing and branding can be used to create awareness of your brand (you are a brand e.g. your blog should represent you through marketing and branding e.g. look and feel of a blog)
- Clients (working for a client can be a long process job depending on the type of work. The bonuses involve getting paid, promoting your work, use your work for them as an example in your portfolio, you enjoy the work)
- Always be professional (not only in approach but in actions e.g. use emails and rock all the boxes)
- Social media (be professional use intelligent comments when talking to people on social Media as a network tool talk about them not just you.
- Keep connecting with people
- As a blogger you must keep reinventing yourself (you are a brand but you have to stay up to date)
- Think like a business person
- Focus on what makes you unique (particularly useful for bloggers)
- What is your USP (unique, selling point)
- Review – look at why things are successful
- Research ( look for it you will not just stumble upon it)
- Experiment (see what works)
- Type (branding, clear, concise, spacing e.g. shows calm more up market
- Photographs (good camera lighting
- Links – link things tonight it is your brand / blog is about e.g. interior décor can be linked to fashion and trends
These are
just some of the points I picked up from Sara’s talk. Her talk was very
informative but also inspiring to see how you can succeed in the industry. It
was also great to hear the realness of what is actually like. I would be more
than happy to expand on any of the points which I have listed. Also I know this
isn’t really a post which relates to all of you but I felt even if it is a
small majority of you it could be helpful and it was also something which I
have been inspired by this week so I thought why not share it with you. Anyway
I hope you are all well. I will be back next week and I have something very exciting
to share with you. Thanks for reading!
